More than 40 people have applied for the position of animal control officer after the previous officer was fired over the way she handled a missing dog report.
“I think that is a strong response,” said Town Manager Mark S. Stankiewicz, the hiring authority.
“I would say it’s the general economy” driving the response.
Meanwhile, former animal control officer Kristin Bousquet has sent a letter to the town manager asking him to reconsider her firing.
Bousquet was fired Oct. 30 after she allegedly lied about a missing 4-year-old female silky Yorkshire terrier to her owner, Janet Torren of Rochester.
Stankiewicz said he hopes to have the full-time animal control officer position filled in about two weeks. The job pays in the $30,000 to $40,000 salary range, he said.
