The Waltham Pop Warner Midget A team opened the season with a 27-0 victory over Wilmington.
In the first quarter, Richie Scanlon scored from 9 yards out on an option left. In the third quarter, Steven Sainvil recovered a fumble and returned it 48 yards for the touchdown. Manny Baptista kicked the extra point. Also in the third quarter, Jacob Duffrene went off tackle 22 yards for the touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Scanlon went up the middle from 2 yards for the touchdown. Baptista ran in the point after. Junior Chery ran well all day on both sides of the ball. On offense, Danny Lawson preserved the shutout with a nice open-field tackle.
The Waltham Mighty Mite Red team beat Wilmington, 19-6. Jake Miller scored in the first quarter on a quarterback sneak from 3 yards out. In the second quarter, Thomas Muizulus recovered a fumble and ran it in from 23 yards. In the third quarter, Andrew Albana went off left tackle 7 yards for the touchdown. Sammy Masse ran in the point after. The offensive line of Frank Muesse, Derek Melanson, Mitchell Bagnall, Jared Ford and Tom Herron played strong. On defense, Gerard Jelloe made a saving tackle at cornerback, also with great work on the line from Kevin Kadlec and Frank Meusse.
The D team lost to Wilmington, 14-0. Although not scoring, Sean Turpin, Aaron Jammal and Jordan Pantoja ran well all day. The defense was led by Spencer Burton, Mike Thibideau, Joseph Ford and Jonathan Vass. The offense was led by Anthony DeGouff, Daniel Sherry, Joseph Preys, Tyler Bull and Nick Foti.
The C team lost its opener, 24-0. The Waltham defense held Wilmington scoreless for three quarters behind the hard hitting of Brendan Bonadio and Dana Parello, but gave up three scores in the fourth quarter. Waltham threatened to score several times off runs from Parello, set up by the blocking of end Kevin Arsenault, tackle David Aiello and guard Mike Wallace. The Waltham defense also had strong performances from corners Charlie O'Connell and John Rezendes, linebacker Matt Poirier and defensive tackles Andrew Richard and Charles Gullotti.
The Junior Midgets B team lost to Wilmington, 32-7. The offense was led by quarterback Curtis Tirone, who moved the ball up and down the field all day. The offensive line of John Ford III, Robert Damigella, Trevor Martin and Vinny Pasquarosa opened big holes all day. The defense was led by Sean Reynolds, Justin Ruiz, Nicholas White and Marcello Cardona.
