Junior quarterback John White threw three touchdown passes, including a 53-yarder on the Falcons' first play from scrimmage, and senior backup Henry Morris tossed two more as Bentley celebrated Homecoming and Senior Day by cruising to a 52-6 win over winless Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference football Saturday afternoon.
Bentley, now 6-2 overall and in the NE-10, jumped on top with 21 points in the opening quarter and 14 more in the second to take a commanding 35-0 lead.
After a fumble recovery by sophomore defensive end Vaughn Cole ended Saint Anselm's opening drive, White went deep to senior Jon Kaczka for a 53-yard scoring strike. Later in the second quarter, Kaczka completed the first-half scoring with a 21-yard touchdown catch.
Bentley's defense forced a three-and-out on the next possession by the Hawks, and after a punt, the Falcons used a 10-play drive to take a 14-0 lead just about six minutes into the contest. A three-yard pass on a fourth-and-goal from White to senior Mike Griggs produced the touchdown.
Bentley's next possession started at the Saint Anselm 33 after the Hawks (0-8, 0-7 NE-10) were unsuccessful in an attempt to convert a fourth-and-one. Sophomore tailback Luis Cotto accounted for 30 yards on the eight-play drive, including a 2-yard run for the touchdown.
Morris threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter, a 32-yarder that senior Jehan Murphy made an outstanding play in the end zone for, and the 21-yarder to Kaczka.
Bentley stretched the lead to 45-0 in the third on an 8-yard TD pass from White to junior John Studley, three plays after senior defensive tackle Scott Miller recovered a fumble at the Hawk 13, and a Falcon varsity record 43-yard field goal by sophomore Tyler McNamara. It was the 18th career field goal for McNamara, tying the school record.
Saint Anselm spoiled the shutout bid about a minute into the fourth quarter, a 25-yard run by junior Conor Cahill.
A 68-yard run by Bentley freshman Liam Regan and McNamara's seventh point-after kick of the afternoon finished the scoring midway through the fourth.
Bentley finished with 399 yards total offense and limited Saint Anselm to 236 while forcing 10 punts and four turnovers. On a day that the Falcon coaching staff played virtually everyone in uniform, Regan led the team in rushing (2 carries for 72 yards) and Kaczka had a game-high 74 receiving yards, with his two TD catches his only receptions of the day. White finished 6 of 14 for 96 yards and Morris was 9 of 11 for 111 yards.
Senior linebacker Sean Leary, playing in his final career home game, led the Falcons with 10 tackles, including nine before intermission. Miller and sophomore Darryl Laforest each had two sacks (Bentley had seven as a team) and both junior Jozef Reddington and freshman Addison Davids had their first career interceptions.
Cahill rushed for 75 yards to lead the Saint Anselm offense, and freshman linebacker Mike Fraser had a team-best 10 tackles.
Bentley will finish the regular season with a pair of road games, beginning next Saturday at Millersville University (Pa.).
