TRINITY CATHOLIC: Falcons rally on the diamond

Senior Mike Rizzo crossed the plate four times as the Trinity Catholic baseball team roared back from an 8-3 deficit for a 12-8 victory over St. Clement's in a Catholic Central League opener on Friday.

Marc Leger's nine-pitch at-bat began the comeback that saw the Falcons score six runs in the sixth inning and another three in the seventh.

Sean Mosier went 3-for-4 with a run and four stolen bases, Mike Marchionda went 3-for-4 with two RBI and four stolen bases, Bobby Greenwood went 2-for-5 with four RBI and Stephen Burckardt went 3-for-3 with two steals and three RBI.

The Falcons (1-1) host Lowell Catholic today.

Softball
Trinity 11, St. Clement's 6
Junior Molly Stone struck out five in her second complete-game victory of the season Friday as the Trinity Catholic softball team rallied past St. Clement's.

The Falcons went down 4-0 in the first before scoring five in the bottom of the inning for the lead. TC then tacked on three runs in the second and another two in the third to pull away.

``We worked on quality at-bats, and the girls responded well,'' said TC coach Troy Turick.

Junior shortstop Jennifer Smallwood went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs scored, sophomore Hannah McCaffrey went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, senior Theresa Kerr went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and three walks, freshman Nicole Civitarese went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two walks and junior Annie Peterson went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

TC (2-0) travels to Lowell Catholic today.
