Despite surging to a 24-20 first-set lead, the Bentley volleyball team crumbled to Dowling College in the NCAA Division II East Regional Friday night, falling 3-0.
 

The top-seeded Golden Lions fought back to take the first set 26-24 then closed out the tight second set 25-20, before roaring past Bentley 25-11 in the final frame.
 

Dowling (28-6) advanced to the regional final as Bentley finished its season 18-13.
 

Seniors Kristine Mickelson and Alex Kearney, a pair of four-year starters, had nine and eight kills, respectively, for Bentley in their final collegiate match. Junior Alaura Berry had eight kills for the Falcons, and junior setter Kelly Mee finished with 24 assists and eight digs.

Men's Basketball
Bentley 91, Holy Family 65
 

Junior guard Tom Dowling erupted for 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting, and senior All-America Jason Westrol followed with 19 points and five steals in Bentley's non-conference home win on Saturday.
 

Bentley led Holy Family (0-2) by as much as 35 late in the game.
 

Dowling scored 15 points before the half and came within one of his career scoring best. Junior forward Brian Tracey finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore forward Kevin Kettl established career-highs for the second time in four days, with 11 points and nine rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.
 

Bentley returns to Northeast-10 play tomorrow night at Saint Anselm.

Women's Basketball
Caldwell 72, Bentley 70
 

Sophomore Kaitlyn Lambert broke the 15th tie of the game with about three minutes left in overtime as Caldwell College went on to edge previously unbeaten Bentley in the second round of the Valley Cup Classic yesterday.
 

Lambert combined with junior Kristy Leedham and freshman guard Torey Jones to score 68 of Caldwell's 72 points.
 

Bentley was led by sophomore guard Katherine Goodwin's 18 points, and junior guard Kim Brennan followed with 16.
 

Bentley dropped to 3-1 despite outshooting the Cougars 45 percent to 35 percent. Bentley's superior shooting was offset by 25 turnovers, a minus-seven rebounding margin and nine missed free throws. Caldwell turned the giveaways into a 30-16 advantage in points off turnovers and also scored 15 second-chance points.
 

The loss came after Bentley recorded a 70-55 opening-round win over Bloomfield College, powered by junior forward Elise Caira's 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Goodwin had 13 points, and Brennan added 10 points and six assists in the win.
 

Bentley concludes a string of four games in seven days tomorrow night with a 5:30 Northeast-10 encounter at Saint Anselm.

Hockey
Bentley 4, Army 3
 

Freshman Brett Hartung scored two goals as Bentley withstood Army's third-period rally in its Atlantic Hockey win Saturday night.
 

The Falcons were ahead 4-1 in the third period, but two power-play goals by Army's Marcel Alvarez less than two minutes apart threatened the Falcons' lead.
 

Marc Menzione and Herbie Kent scored the other goals for Bentley.
 

Sophomore goalie Kyle Rank made 27 saves to earn his first win of the season.
 

Bentley had fallen to Army 5-1 in the first game, with Hartung scoring the lone goal.
 

Bentley's split of the series put the Falcons at 4-5-2 overall and 4-3-2 in Atlantic Hockey heading into tomorrow's game against Brown at 7.

Men's Swimming
Bentley 164, UMass-Dartmouth 131
 

Led by junior Egen Ouellette, Bentley won nine of the first 12 events en route to a win over UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.
 

Ouellette was the only Falcon to take a pair of individual events, capturing the 100-yard butterfly in 56.19 and the 500 freestyle in 5:11.25.
 

He also helped Bentley win the 200 medley relay team by five-and-a-half seconds, combining with sophomore Joe Frantel and seniors Sam Laden and Willie Connolly for a time of 1:41.33. Laden was also first in the 100 breaststroke, posting a 1:03.45, and Connolly won the 400 individual medley in 4:36.20.
 

Freshman Tyler Champagne topped the 1,000 free, winning in 10:44.77.
 

Bentley (2-2) will be back in its home pool Dec. 5-6 for the Northeast-10 Invitational.
 

Women's Swimming
Bentley 185, UMass-Dartmouth 101
 

Junior Anne Kaduboski won two individual events, freshman Jessica Hodsdon shattered the school record in the 50-yard breaststroke and both were part of a winning 200 medley relay team in Bentley's win on Saturday.
 

Kaduboski captured the 200 freestyle in 2:01.05, touching more than four seconds before runner-up and teammate Susie Boretti.
 

Hodsdon, already the school record holder in the 100 breast, added the 50 to her collection with her winning time of 31.05 seconds.
 

Kaduboski, Boretti and Hodsdon combined with freshman Monika Drogosz in the 200 medley, winning in 1:56.35. Drogosz (100 back, 1:04.73) and Boretti (100 breast, 1:11.81) were also individual winners for the Falcons.
 

Freshman Abby Mathews swept the two diving events for Bentley, posting scores of 218.95 on the 1-meter and 155.45 on the 3-meter.
 

Bentley, 3-1, is off until the Northeast-10 Invitational Dec. 5-6, which will be held in its home pool.
