Saint Jude School of Waltham recently has wrapped up a successful season of basketball.

This marks the eighth year of the program. The enrollment the program had for the 2007-2008 season was 90 children and involved children from grades kindergarten through sixth grade.

This year, Pre-K siblings were added to the program. In this program the children learn basic basketball skills and how to play together as a team. Lasting friendships are built.

Saint Jude first and second grade team (the ``Freshmen''), the third and fourth grade team (the ``Junior Varsity'' team), and the fifth and sixth (the ``Varsity team''), all play other Catholic grade schools in an interscholastic basketball league.

The season runs from December to March. It also has a month of family fun with the season winding down with an intramural ``March Madness'' playoff. Children play on teams in which they design their own team names. Parents play ``parent vs. children'' games. This has become a favorite part of the program.

The whole season wraps up with a banquet of pizza and trophies. Many parents are involved as coaches and children that graduate from the program often continue to be involved by learning to referee games.
