The Gann Academy girls basketball team had another strong performance last night with a 44-34 victory over Pingree School.
The team came out aggressively, putting defensive pressure on the Highlanders the entire length of the floor. The strategy led to Pingree taking some rushed shots early. However, Gann had difficulties boxing out in the first half and gave up mulitple second- and third-chance opportunities in leading only 22-18 at the break.
In the second half, Gann senior captain Yael Nurko led the continued defensive effort. Pingree tied the game at 24, but Gann quickly recovered its momentum and finished powerfully.
Senior Nancy Epstein had 25 points and 18 rebounds, Maddie Rodman contributed six points and six rebounds, and Tami Pearlstein netted eight points. Sarah Litwin also had a solid game for Gann.
Gann improved to 11-4 and is off until next Thursday when it hosts Proctor.
West Bridgewater 54, Mt. Alvernia 29

Gann 80, Greater Boston 49
Seniors Adam Ephriam (14 points) and Kevin Baker (13 points) led a well-balanced Gann scoring attack that saw all 11 players register in the scoring column on the way to a 80-49 victory over Greater Boston Academy.
The Heifers began the game playing tough man-to-man defense that helped triggered a lightning-quick fast break. The break, coupled with hot shooting, led the team to a 51-29 halftime lead.
The second half saw more of the same swarming defense, and every player found his shooting range, on the way to the well-earned win.
Senior Noah Davis, Perry Davidoff and Yoni Philosophe each chipped in eight points in the win.
Gann (11-5) hosts Dexter School next Wednesday.
