Newton man charged with assault

NEWTON - Frances Davis, 42, 902 Watertown St., was arrested June 26 and charged with assault and battery, according to police.

Man arrested on shoplifting, drug charges

NEWTON - Newton police said they arrested a man who allegedly stole Armani sunglasses from Solstice, 199 Boylston St., on Sunday at 4:48 p.m.

Andrew Shulman, 17, of 30 Collard Court, Brookline, was charged with shoplifting, and was given a citation for possession of marijuana.

Police said they found Shulman walking with three women on Boylston Street. They said he attempted to hide the sunglasses on a bulldozer as police asked to speak to the group. During booking, police found a bag with a green substance believed to be marijuana.

Man charged with assault with weapon

NEWTON - Aaron Brown, 18, of 9 Raymond Place, was arrested June 25 on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to murder, following a family disturbance.

Woman arrested on shoplifting charge

NEWTON - Police said they arrested a woman June 24 at Bloomingdale's, 199 Boylston St., on a shoplifting charge.

Gina Apiah Dodoo, 40, of 11 Gibbs St., Worcester, was charged with shoplifting and unauthorized use of a credit card, police said.

Security said she was seen taking four bracelets and a shirt, as well as attempting to buy sunglasses with an unauthorized credit card.

Newton man faces multiple charges

NEWTON - Jeffrey Grillo-Chope, 28, of 37 Thurston Road, was arrested June 23 on charges of domestic assault and battery, intimidation of a witness, malicious destruction of property, drunken driving and driving without a license.

Police said the arrest stemmed from a call about a domestic dispute on Thurston Road.

Man is arrested after chase

NEWTON - Police arrested a man June 23 on several charges, including driving a stolen car.

The episode began when a police officer saw a driver, later identified as Richard Aviles, cut off another car attempting to turn onto Crafts Street from Washington Street, police said.

Police tried to pull over his car, but he refused to stop, police said. Police ultimately caught him near 317 Washington St. following a brief foot chase.

Aviles, no address given, was charged with receiving a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for a police officer, reckless driving, driving without a license, resisting arrest, altering a vehicle idenfification number, and misuse of a RMV document.

A passenger in vehicle, Felix Diaz, was charged with receiving a stolen vehicle, police said.

Man arrested on property destruction charge

NEWTON - Police said they were called to Cibel Path on June 21 on a report a family member destroyed items in the house after an argument before driving away. When police arrived and were interviewing the family members, the suspect returned.

John Lenninger, 43, of 9 Cibel Path, was charged with malicious destruction of property over $250, police said.

Man charged with assault and battery

NEWTON - A man police said attempted to choke a woman and ripped the phone out of her hands while she was calling them was arrested June 21 on Madison Avenue.

Pierre Watts, 48, of 31 South St., Brighton, was charged with assault and battery, police said.
