The Foundation for MetroWest announced Monday that it distributed $50,000 in grants to 41 food pantries throughout the region, including several in Waltham.
The grants came from the foundation's English Family Fund, and went to food banks from as far as Waltham, Milford and Acton. The foundation hopes the money will go a long way, said Judith Salerno, executive director of Foundation for MetroWest.
"Food pantries have a remarkable ability to do a lot with very little,'' Salerno said. "We are proud that we could play a small, but important role in helping the food pantries of MetroWest do a little more for families throughout the region this holiday season.''
In 2009 the Foundation for MetroWest distributed $600,000 throughout the region and has distributed more than $5.5 million since its inception in 1995.
