A car crashed into a Lincoln Street farm stand yesterday afternoon, damaging the building and rattling employees who were working inside.
A black Chevy Impala drove into a side entrance of Pizzi Farm Market & Deli around 3:30 p.m.
The market and ice cream stand is at the corner of Lincoln and Lake streets.
The driver of the car, whose name police did not release, was an older woman, said Deputy Fire Chief Tom MacInnis.
The woman told police her foot got stuck on the accelerator as she was pulling into a parking space just yards from the building.
The car drove over a concrete barrier and plowed through a table of flowers before hitting the building's exterior.
The driver of the car and two passengers were not injured, said MacInnis.
Working inside the ice cream stand at the time of the accident were Angela D'Ercole and Jennifer Muscato.
"We heard the screeching of brakes," said D'Ercole.
Both girls, thinking there was a car accident on Lake Street, rushed to the takeout window to look.
"Then the building shook," said D'Ercole. "Everything went flying five inches."
Neither girl was injured but both said they were shaken up by the accident.
The damage to the building occurred near the slush machines and after the accident, only hard-serve ice cream was available to patrons.
Surveying the damage was Alba Pizzi, who has owned the stand for 43 years.
Pizzi said the foundation and door frame were both damaged and it was not immediately clear if any of the equipment against the back wall was also damaged.
The farm stand had just recently opened the ice cream window for the summer, said Pizzi.
