WALTHAM —

Kennedy Middle School experienced another lockdown Friday when a folding knife was found by an office.

Lockers were searched an the only questionable items found were a cake knife and scissors. The student who brought the cake knife, as well as a cake - both items are prohibited - had his mother call the school and explain it was for the final couple days of classes.

The lockdown only lasted one hour.

``I was very happy that it only took one hour,'' said Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy.
The lockdown follows one on June 11 when an anonymous letter turned in with the secretary's attendance sheets warned of the possibility of a fight brewing and a gun on the premises.

During that search of all lockers and students, Waltham Police, North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council officers and school administrators turned up four pocketknives, two bike pegs and a box of kitchen matches. Bike pegs, said police, are long, rod-like pieces of metal that screw onto the back tires, and could potentially be used as a weapon during a fight. The knives were found on two individuals.
