A man who grabbed a $50 bill from the lap of a man in a car stopped in traffic Sunday will be summoned to court, police said.

The man, whom police did not identify, grabbed the bill from the lap of a passenger in a car that was stopped at River and Bright streets around 1 p.m., police said.

According to police, two men in the car - ages 18 and 19, got of the car and chased the man behind 240 River St. The told police the thief jumped into the Charles River to get away.

When officers, firefighters and an ambulance crew arrived, they decided to put a rescue boat in the water. They found the 24-year-old man hiding in a marshy area about 20 minutes later.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was being treated for hypothermia, said Detective Lt. Brian Navin. He will be summoned to court on a charge of larceny from a person.
