Eleven candidates vying for six at large seats on the City Council and four contested ward races will highlight tomorrow's municipal election.

Polls across the city will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Using past history as a guide, City Clerk Russ Malone said he expects about 6,500 or so of the city's roughly 35,145 registered voters to cast ballots tomorrow.

"I hope we get more than that," Malone said. "I really do."

In the at large race for City Council, incumbent at large councilors Paul Brasco, Sarafina "Sally" Collura, David Marcou, Kathleen McMenimen and Thomas Stanley are joined in the at large race by Doris Donovan, president of the Waltham Council of Neighborhood Advocates; Ken Doucette, a former Ward 6 councilor; Diane LeBlanc, regional administrator for the National Archives; Eugene O'Brien, a school teacher; Howard Rock, a local attorney; and Joe Vizard, who previously ran for council seat.

Malone said he expects the turnout to be higher in precincts in Ward 1, 7, 8 and 9 where there are contested races.

In Ward 1, Dale Street resident Daniel Romard squares off against Bacon Street Gloria Champion. In Ward 7, Stow Street resident Paul Umbrello is challenging incumbent Joe Giordano. In Ward 8, incumbent Stephen Rourke is facing competition from Park Street resident Albert Bakalis. In Ward 9, Prospect Street resident Andrew Driscoll is challenging incumbent Robert Logan.

Meanwhile, running uncontested for re-election are Ward 2 Councilor Ed Tarallo, Ward 3 Councilor George A. Darcy III, Ward 4 Councilor Thomas Curtin, Ward 5 Councilor Gary Marchese, and Ward 6 Councilor Robert Waddick.

In the race for School Committee, there are four candidates vying for three seats: incumbent Robert Cincotta, former committee member Susan Burnstein, Lisa Limonciello, and David Matayabas.
