NEWTON —

An 18-year-old Newton man pleaded not guilty in court Friday morning to charges that he assaulted his father and a police officer.

Mark Lidsky, of 27 Washington Park, was arrested Thursday night in his home after police were called about a fight.

According to reports and court documents, Lidsky was upset about not receiving something in the mail that he had been waiting for. He then began arguing with his mother before going after his father, police said.

Fearing for her safety, Lidsky's mother fled the house along with his younger brother, running toward a local store to call police.

When they arrived, police saw Lidsky pushing his father in their driveway.

A police officer ordered Lidsky to stand still. Instead, Lidsky walked toward the officer and hit him in the chest and shoulder, reports said.

When Lidsky was told he was going to be arrested, he became even more aggressive and continued to hit the police officer in the chest, according to reports.

According to reports, police then wrestled Lidsky to the ground and handcuffed him.

Lidsky was charged with two counts of assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and intimidating a witness.

He was arraigned in Newton District Court Friday morning and released without bail.

Lidsky was also ordered to stay away from his home.

He is due back in court on June 3 for a pretrial conference.
