VETERANS DAY, Ceremony on Common
The city of Waltham Veterans' Services and the Waltham Allied Veterans' Council will honor all veterans at a ceremony on Veterans' Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m., at the Circle of Remembrance on Waltham Common. All Veteran groups will meet at the Elm Street Parking Lot behind City Hall at 10:30 a.m. and march in formation to the Circle of Remembrance.

PROSPECT HILL PARK, Gate closed to motor vehicles
The Waltham Recreation Department announces that the gate to Prospect Hill Park, 314 Totten Pond Road, is closed for the season to motor vehicles. It will re-open next spring.

HISTORICAL COMMISSION, Monthly meeting
The Waltham Historical Commission will hold its monthly meeting at Arthur Clark Government Center, 119 School St., on Monday, Nov. 9, 7 p.m. Agenda items are consultant reports and Developmental Prospectus from Verizon Wireless Sites (including 404 Wyman St., 130 Turner St., 1 Moody St., and 50 Bear Hill Road). Also being heard are requests related to 285 Lake St., 144 Moody St. and 699 Moody St. A request for storage of large vehicles at 102-104 Felton St. will be considered. VNA CARE, Seeks volunteers
VNA Care Network & Hospice, a nonprofit home health care, hospice and wellness agency, needs volunteers for its Children's Choices pediatric palliative care program. Volunteers will assist families who have a child with a life-limiting illness. Volunteers may participate in complementary therapies such as art and music, provide companionship for siblings, or offer respite to parents. Training, supervision and support are provided.

WALTHAM LAND TRUST, Jimmy Tingle
The Waltham Land Trust presents, Laugh so You Don't Cry: an Evening with Jimmy Tingle!, a benefit for the Waltham Land Trust to celebrate its 10th year anniversary. The event is Friday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m., at the American Legion Waltham Post 156, 215 Waverley Oaks Road. Tickets are $30, $35 for non-members. PLYMPTON ELEMENTARY, Election Day bake sale
The Plympton Elementary PTO is having its annual Election Day bake sale Tuesday, Nov. 3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The new location this year is Plympton Elementary School, 20 Farnsworth St. There will be home baked goods, as well as pizza, chili and subs donated by Waltham restaurants. There will also be raffles prizes.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS, Special education program
The Special Education Department of Waltham Public Schools is accepting applications for the integrated preschool programs at Stanley and Northeast elementary schools for the 2010-2011 school year. An integrated classroom is one in which less than half of the children have a diagnosed special education need. In order to provide them with access to typically developing peers, children without diagnosed or suspected needs are recruited to attend classes on a part-time basis. Children must be Waltham residents, be either 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2010, and have access to their own transportation.

EPOCH, Dan Hart
Dan Hart, a singer and guitarist, will perform at EPOCH Senior Healthcare of Chestnut Hill, 615 Heath St., on Friday, Nov. 6, 10:30 a.m. Hart has a memorized repertoire of hundreds of songs from the 1920s to the 1970s. His performance is free and open to the public.
