Hovey Players continues its 74th theatrical season with performances of the heartfelt comedy, ``The Real Thing,''by playwright Tom Stoppard. ``The Real Thing'' examines the difficulties and rewards of finding and sustaining love and commitment, as well as challenging our very notions about what is real. WALTHAM MILLS, Open Studios
Waltham Mills Artists Association celebrates its 33rd annual Open Studios at the historic mill buildings, 144 Moody St., on Saturday, Nov. 7, noon to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 8, noon to 5 p.m. The work of more than 70 artists will be on display - paintings, sculpture, wood-works, collages, ceramics, glass-works, prints, textiles, photography and jewelry. Film, video, and animation artists will also screen work.

La Reine Bridal, 20-22 High St., is again donating wedding gowns to anyone deployed in Afghanistan or Iraq, or marrying anyone deployed in these countries. The Plympton Elementary PTO is having its annual Election Day bake sale Tuesday, Nov. 3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The new location this year is Plympton Elementary School, 20 Farnsworth St. There will be home baked goods, as well as pizza, chili and subs donated by Waltham restaurants. PIE IN THE SKY, Funds programs for ill
Pie in the Sky, sponsored by Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and Digitas, is Community Servings' annual Thanksgiving bake sale which helps fund meals and nutrition programs for the critically-ill. Now in its 17th year, Pie in the Sky involves more than 150 of Greater Boston's best chefs and over 400 volunteers donating their time, talent and resources to bake and sell the freshest and finest Thanksgiving pies. From October through Thanksgiving, sellers promote the sale and take pie orders. Each pie costs $25. There are pick-up sites at Coldwell Banker, 702 Main St., Waltham, and Coldwell Banker Newton, 1261 Centre St.

Temple Beth Avodah, 45 Puddingstone Lane, will be hosting its 2nd annual Green Fair on Sunday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Green Fair presents educational programs and informative displays that highlight best practices in environmental issues. The event will showcase more than 25 diverse local and national green businesses displaying and selling eco-friendly, fair trade and sustainable products. There will also be three presentations - Staying Healthy in the Winter, 11 a.m.; The Eco-Friendly Landscape, noon; and Getting to the Goal: How Will Your House Reduce its Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2050?, 1 p.m. - throughout the Fair about the environment. Congregation Mishkan Tefila nursery school, 300 Hammond Pond Parkway, will be hosting toddler playgroups while school is in session, Tuesdays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Infants, toddlers and their parents or adult companions are welcome to join in the Butterfly Room for a light snack and conversation.
