METALWERX, Vendor Day
Metalwerx' annual Vendor Day on Sunday, Nov. 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Armenian Cultural Center, 47 Nichols Ave., Watertown, features free jewelry-making lectures presented by industry professionals. There will be tools, gemstones, beads, finding and other supplies. Industry experts speak on a variety of topics, including the use of a hydraulic press, photography for small art objects, soldering techniques, web design for a craft business, and more. WALTHAM PHILHARMONIC, Halloween concert
The Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra's first concert of the 2009-10, The Spirit of Halloween, is Saturday, Oct. 31, 7 p.m., at Kennedy Middle School, 655 Lexington St. This concert is free to all children accompanied by paying adult; $20 for adults; $15 for seniors. Everyone is encouraged to come in costume. A reception of refreshments, sponsored by City Councilor Sally Collura, will follow, with the opportunity to talk to the orchestra.

Watlham dentist Sally Farzaneh is trying to get children to cut down on eating Halloween candy and helping a local charity at the same time. ST. CHARLES, Healthy eating teachers
Springwell, a local nonprofit serving Waltham seniors, is bringing a new program about healthy eating to local seniors. Volunteers are needed to lead 6-week classes about nutrition. Training, curriculum, and teaching scripts are provided. Classes are designed for lay individuals to teach; volunteers do not need a background in nutrition or chronic disease. Orientation is Wednesday, Oct. 28, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., or Thursday, Oct. 29, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

BOSTON COLLEGE, Berlin Wall 20th anniversary
Boston College is the only Boston-area university selected by the German Embassy in Washington, D.C., to participate in, Freedom without Walls, a national collegiate commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The public is invited to join members of the BC community at free events on campus in October and November commemorating the fall of the Berlin Wall. On Thursday, Oct. 29, 4:30 p.m., at Devlin Hall room 101 Winston Churchill's granddaughter Edwina Sandys will speak exclusively at Boston College about Breakthrough, a sculpture she created from eight panels of the Berlin Wall at the site of her grandfather's Iron Curtain speech at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.
