TEXAS HOLD 'EM, Benefits Pop Warner
There will be a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament, to benefit Waltham Pop Warner, on Saturday, Nov. 29, 11 a.m. (check-in at 10 a.m.), at the Waltham Moose Hall, Spruce Street. $100 buy in. Nighttime festivities, including DJ, raffles, and cash bar, is 7 p.m. to midnight.

CITY OF WALTHAM, Holiday Lighting
Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy invites the public to the Waltham Common for the annual Holiday Lighting on Friday, Nov. 28, 6 p.m. The Salvation Army will be on the Common providing refreshments, the Waltham High School show choirs will be on hand to get everyone in the holiday spirit with singing some holiday classics and the opportunity for parents to take their child's photo on Santa's lap.

GORE PLACE, Not Another Bite!
Gore Place, 52 Gore St., will offer a special evening tour, Not Another Bite! Wined & Dined in 1809, on Friday, Nov. 28, 7 p.m. If you think you had a big meal on Thanksgiving Day, just wait until you see how people entertained in the time of Christopher and Rebecca Gore. In the early 1800s, dinner parties provided an opportunity to ``wow'' guests with bountiful food and plentiful drink. Led by a guide in period dress, visitors will tour this beautiful 1806 mansion and hear stories of sumptuous dining and gracious entertainment in the early 1800s. Admission is $12, $8 children 5-12.

TOYS FOR TOTS, Drop-off at EPOCH
Community members are invited to drop off new, unwrapped toys at donation boxes located in the lobbies of EPOCH Senior Healthcare of Chestnut Hill and EPOCH Assisted Living at Boylston Place, 615 Heath St., any day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations are being accepted on behalf of the Marine's Toys for Tots Foundation which distributes the toys to needy children in the local community. The goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 12.

ATRIUM MALL, Paint winter scene
Atrium Mall, 300 Boylston St., invites children to visit the mall on Friday, Nov. 28, 1 to 3 p.m., to paint their own winter scene canvas. Children will be able to leave their artwork at the mall and then come back in December for a chance to see their own creations displayed in the children's PlaySpace. All supplies will be provided. Other fun activities for children will take place on Level 4. Gymboree Play Time will be on-site during the event, and children will be able to participate in Parachute Playtime.

NEWTON-TANZANIA, Collaborative kick-off event
The Newton-Tanzania Collaborative will host a kick-off event at the Newton Free Library, 330 Homer St., on Monday, Nov. 24, 7 p.m, to celebrate their accomplishments to date, launch their new interactive Web site and premiere Kwala Secondary School, a video featuring their partner village in Tanzania.
Formed in 2006, NTC is committed to fostering mutual relationships between communities in America and Tanzania. The organization's first partnership between Newton, Mass., and Kwala (a village located 50 miles outside of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania) has yielded communication and exchange projects between students and teachers, an exchange visit to Newton by Kwala school teacher and NTC Advisor Athuman Msangi, and fundraising that has helped address Kwala's severe shortage of textbooks and school supplies.

THANKS SPINNING, At West Suburban YMCA
Join the West Suburban YMCA, 276 Church St., on Thursday, Nov. 27, 8 to 10 a.m., for Thanks Spinning, a series spinning classes taught by the YMCA's certified fitness professionals. Participants can register for classes at 8, 8:30, 9, and 9:30 a.m., to work-off calories before Thanksgiving dinner. Each class is $10 and all proceeds will be donated to the Hellenic Gospel Church Food Pantry. Spinners are encouraged to pre-register.

EPOCH, 1972 election discussion
Historian and Stonehill College professor of American History, Gary L. Hylander, Ph.D., will lead an educational discussion, Nixon-McGovern and the 1972 Election, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2 p.m., at EPOCH Assisted Living at Boylston Place, 615 Heath St. Framing McGovern as an extremist who was out of touch with American values and voters, Nixon beat McGovern for the presidency by a landslide vote. Hylander will discuss this amazing race and Nixon's fall from grace as he began his second term under the growing shadow of the Watergate break-in.
