YMCA GOLF TOURNAMENT, Sponsor, players sought
The Waltham YMCA is having it's annual golf tournament Thursday, Sept. 25, Stow Country Club. Playing in the tournament of being a sponsor are two ways to support the YMCA.

GORE PLACE, Heirloom bulbs for sale
Gore Place is now offering heirloom flower bulbs for sale. These rare and hard to find flowering bulbs have been selected for their beauty, hardiness, and unique qualities. Many date back to the mid 1800s and some as early as circa 1750. Varieties include Tulipa biflora (circa 1775), the multi-floral tulip Candy Club, Allium triquentrum (circa 1790), the miniature species Narcissus jonquilla simplex (circa 1750), and many more.

PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA, Season begins in October
The Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra will begin its 23rd season with, New Traditions: Celebrating Cultural Diversity, on Oct. 25, at McDevitt Middle School. The new season will present some surprises and new, exciting talent, along with familiar, beloved classical pieces. The concert series continues with the popular Holiday Pops Concert in December, a Valentine's Concert on Feb. 14, and shows in April and May.

BRANDEIS UNIVERSITY, Icons of the Civil Rights
An exhibition in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and several other Americans who struggled in the civil rights movement is coming to Brandeis University. Several of the subjects of the portraits were victims of tragedy, but the show is meant to celebrate their lives and their common mission of social justice. The Brandeis Intercultural Center and MLK Scholars and Friends present, Icons of the Civil Rights, Aug. 26-Sept. 30 in the Goldfarb Library, 415 South St. The exhibition will feature a dozen paintings by Pamela Chatterton-Purdy, who has been involved in social justice throughout her career.

EDUCATION AND BEYOND, Two new grants
The Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation, a town-wide educational foundation that works to provide resources across the school system, announced the establishment of two educational grant programs available to the students and faculty of the Waltham Public School System.
The Excellence in Education Grant Program is the cornerstone of the Foundation's efforts to provide meaningful and enriching educational opportunities for students in the Waltham Public School community. Funds raised by the foundation become the source of grant money for the Excellence in Education program which is open to Waltham Public school teachers, staff, and administrators as well as junior and senior high school students. The program intends to rally support by encouraging teachers and staff to take advantage of the funds offered. Where can they get more information?
The Sally Elizabeth Peters Enrichment Program has been made possible by a personal donation from Dr. and Mrs. Alan Peters in memory of their daughter Sally. Sally was a student at the MacArthur Elementary School and attended the Waltham Junior and Senior High Schools before pursuing several college degrees. She was also a member of the Waltham Symphony Orchestra Chorus, the Reagle Players with an avid interest in photography. The purpose of this program is to honor the memory of Sally by enriching student and teacher experiences and learning opportunities.

Let Springwell help you with their new ``Caregiver's Notebook: A Guide for Organizing and Record Keeping.'' This great tool was created exclusively to help caregivers organize important information and assist in planning for their loved one's future.
A workshop will take place at the Newton Senior Center, 345 Walnut St., on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Each attendee will receive a free ``Caregiver's Notebook.''
