EVENSONG SERVICES, At First Parish
Summer Evensong Services at First Parish Church, 50 Church St., will take place on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m., continuing through Aug. 17. These lay-led circle gatherings aim to provide a centering framework for reflection and renewal. End a busy weekend and begin a Summer week in community with others. While there is no childcare planned, all are welcome, and light refreshments will be provided.

THIRD MIDDLESEX, Picnic in Bedford
The Third Middlesex Area Democrats summer picnic is Sunday, July 27, 1 to 4 p.m., at the Larkin home, 246 Carlisle Road, Bedford. This event if for the entire family. The Third Middlesex Area Democrats represents all towns in Sen. Susan Fargo's district. Hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages are provided, other contributions are welcome. A public forum with the candidates will be moderated by Democratic state committee member Joe Mullin.

GORE PLACE, No Sunday tours
During August, guided tours of the Gore Place mansion will be available Monday through Friday at 1 p.m., and Saturdays, on the hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The grounds are open, year-round, from dawn to dusk with the exception of special event days.

FIRE DEPARTMENT, Hydrant inspections
The Waltham Fire Department will conduct hydrant inspections throughout the city Aug. 1-30. Chief Richard Cardillo recommends that all persons who may use water for cooking, drinking or laundering during this period run their faucets utnil their water is free of rust. He advises citizens to watch for fire engines in their neighborhood as a sign that hydrandt testing is in progress.

SPRINGWELL, Compensation as provider
Are you caring for a loved one who has a chronic illness, physical disability, or mental disability? You could earn up to $18,000 per year through Springwell's Adult Family Care Program if the person lives in your home, is enrolled in MassHealth, and receives care from you. Springwell is a local, non-profit organization dedicated to helping seniors and adults with disabilities live independently in the community.

TEMPLE EMUNAH, Israeli dance class

CULTURAL COUNCIL, Applicants sought for board
The Waltham Cultural Council invites and encourages new applicants to serve on the Council. The WCC is a volunteer board that allocates grant money from the Massachusetts Cultural Council to Waltham-based artists, groups and institutions for funding of activities in the arts, humanities or interpretive sciences, enriching the cultural life of the city. Appointments are made by the mayor to a three-year term, and applications may be found at www.city.waltham.ma.us/Personnel, then click Volunteer, or at the mayor's office, 610 Main St. The time commitment is small, with approximately five meetings per year.

The Mayor's Office for Cultural Affairs and Arts in the Parks, Newton Parks & Recreation Department will present a Free Tuesday Afternoon Children's Performance Series on July 29, 1 p.m., at the Newton Center Playground, Tyler Terrace, with Benjamin the Clown. Trained at the Moscow Circus, Benjamin, brings a certain flair to his juggling, clowning, and jokes.

ARTHRITIS EXERCISE , New program available
Less pain, more flexibility, and the sense of feeling better overall are what many people with arthritis gain from the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, a free low-impact class designed specifically for those with arthritis. The program will now be available to the public locally through a six-week course at Evans Park at Newton Corner, 430 Centre St. A kick-off event for the class is Wednesday, July 30, 3 p.m., with refreshments. The sessions will run Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Aug. 5, 9:50 a.m.
