LELAND HOME, Basket Raffle
Leland Home Resident's Fund Basket Raffle will be held again this year. There will be a variety of themed gift baskets on display at Leland Home, 21 Newton St., through Dec. 17. Chances are $1 or six for $5, with proceeds benefiting the Leland Resident's Fund. The drawing will be held Dec. 17 at Leland.

EDUCATION AND BEYOND, Grant Award Ceremony
Join the Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation, community members, business leaders and educators for the first annual Excellence in Education Grant Award Ceremony hosted by Foundation President, Tom Dusel, COO Hobbsbrook Management, Thursday, Nov. 20, at Forefront Conference and Meeting Center, 404 Wyman St., Waltham. A cocktail reception will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the dinner and award ceremony from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

BUDDY POPPIES, Available until Nov. 30
Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2152 and its Ladies Auxiliary will be distributing Buddy Poppies in Waltham through Nov. 30, according to Gerry Lyons, CMR.
In 1923, the VFW was the first veterans organization to promote a nationally organized campaign for the annual distribution of poppies assembled by disabled or hospitalized veterans. That tradition continues today, with more than 14 million poppies assembled by paid veterans each year. The members of the VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary raise more than $15 million annually from the distribution of Buddy Poppies. The VFW, founded in 1899, is the nation's oldest major veterans organization with more than 1.9 million members.

The Waltham Historical Society presents, Working Women at Waltham, on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 7 p.m., at RTN Federal Credit Union, 600 Main St. Tom McIntyre's lecture will focus on the various jobs the women held in the watch factory and what the management did to furnish comfortable working conditions. Watches produced especially for women will be showcased. Since being elected second vice president of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors, he has visited many collectors all over the U.S.

The National Archives and Records Administration Northeast Region, 380 Trapelo Road, will feature a lecture by Archives historian Joseph Keefe on, Records Related to Military Service 18th, 19th, and 20th c., on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2 p.m. The presentation is intended for novice family historians. Tours of the archives will be offered at 1:30 p.m. After the lecture, the public is invited to utilize the resources of the National Archives, and they will be assisted by the archives staff and volunteers.
