Former Waltham resident Dyan deNapoli will be returning to give a presentation about the world's largest penguin rescue at the Waltham Public Library, 735 Main St., on Wednesday, July 23, 7:30 p.m. Formerly with the New England Aquarium, Dyan now teaches adults and children about penguins through her educational company, The Penguin Lady. GERRY BEAUDOIN, Jazz guitarist at Gore
Jazz guitarist, and Waltham native and resident, Gerry Beaudoin and friends present a concert Wednesday, July 23, 7 p.m., at Gore Place, 52 Gore St. The concert, in the 1793 carriage house, features Beaudoin and friends. Beaudoin has appeared on over 20 recordings in his career since his first national release in 1990 He has appeared or recorded with the elite of the jazz and blues guitar world, including John and Bucky Pizzarelli, Howard Alden, Jimmy Bruno, Frank Vignola, Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, J. The Waltham Boys & Girls Club 2008 Summer Foods Service Program runs June 30-Aug. 29, Monday through Friday. All youth 18 years old and under are invited to join us for a delicious, free lunch. The program is a federally funded program that provides nutritious meals.

CITIZENS BANK, Collecting school supplies
For the third consecutive year, Citizens Bank is collecting new school supplies for low-income children in Massachusetts. Beginning July 14, pencils, pens, notebooks and other supplies can be donated at any Citizens Bank branch in the state through August 2. This year's Gear for Grades program is supported by Greater Media and Cradles to Crayons.

Bencorp, a volunteer based community service committee of Benjamin Franklin Bank, will host a car wash at four of its branch locations, including 1290 Main St., on Saturday, July 19, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Bencorp participates in volunteer activities and provides financial literacy training to residents and community members throughout its neighborhoods. CHARLES RIVER, Rid of water chestnuts
Charles River Watershed Association volunteers will be ridding the Charles of an exotic water chestnuts, an invasive aquatic plant that is choking out oxygen, light and are a hazard to boater. Volunteers will use canoes to reach the shallow waters and shorelines to pull the plants from the river. For the second year in a row, Charles River Watershed Association and Charles River Canoe and Kayak are teaming up, in collaboration with Mass. Department of Conservation. Groups or individuals can sign up for Saturday, July 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or Sunday, July 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All volunteers will have the chance to enter a drawing to win tickets to the Aug. 6 Jack Johnson concert at the Tweeter Center.
