Octoberfest
Oktoberfest on Friday, Oct. 2, 12:30 p.m., in parking lot (inside if raining). A festive afternoon featuring German music, knockwurst, hot dogs, sauerkraut and German chocolate cake. Shuttle from the Sacred Heart Church, noon, a lot will be closed. Cost is $7, due upon reservation.
Foliage trip
A fall day trip on the Mohawk Trail of Central Massachusetts on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Stroll across the Bridge of Flowers, an abandoned trolley bridge, lunch at the Salem Cross Inn (Yankee pot roast or chicken pot pie) and Brookfield Orchards. Cost is $53, due upon reservation beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15. The bus departs Sacred Heart Church parking lot at 8 a.m. and returns around 6 p.m.
Writing workshops
Author Samuel Blumenfeld presents, How to write your biography, on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1 p.m. Free, but call to register.
If you like to write stories, poems, essays, a memoir, or even a novel, join us on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 23, 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 2 to 3 p.m., for Tools & Tactics for Creative Writers. You'll learn how to avoid the most frequent mistakes budding writers make, and ways to make your writing engaging and powerful so that others will enjoy reading it. Cost is $5 per class.
Matter of Balance

T'ai Chi resumes Tuesday, Sept. 1; painting resumes Thursday, Sept. 10; and Thursday water exercise class resumes Sept. 10, 10:45 a.m. The senior bowling league begins Tuesday, Sept. 8, noon, at the Fairway Lanes, Natick.
Ballroom and line dancing
A 10-week ballroom class runs Sept. 28-Dec. 7, 3 to 4 p.m. A 10-week line dance class runs Oct. 1-Dec. 10, 2 to 3 p.m. for advanced students, 3 to 4 for beginners. Cost is $30, $40 for non residents, payable on the first day of class.
Safe academy
Officer Jon Bailey will offer a 6-week Senior Academy for Education (S.A.F.E.) on Monday, Sept. 28, Oct. 5, 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Classes will focus on legal issues, identity theft, personal safety, home security, fall prevention, avoiding scams and more.
Shifting Gears
RMV's Shifting Gears, which highlights issues facing elder drivers and their families, is Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1 p.m.
Hearing loss
Equipment that is used by deaf and hard of hearing individuals will be shown and explained Monday, Oct. 5, 1 to 3 p.m. The selection will focus on communication and alerting equipment.
Computer course
A 6-week advanced computer course will be offered Wednesday, Oct. 21, 28, Nov. 4, 18, 25, Dec. 2, 1 to 2 p.m. The course covers advanced word processing, Internet and e-mail. The cost is $30, $40 for non-residents, due on the first day of class.
