JULY FOURTH, Two events in Waltham
The Waltham Celebration Committee and Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy announce that they will be hosting two events for this year's Fourth of July Celebration. There will be a family event featuring free children's rides, pony rides, animal shows, music, food, drinks, and much more Saturday, July 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Prospect Hill Park, 314 Totten Pond Road. That evening at Leary Field, off Bacon Street, the Reminisants will be performing at 5:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

GORE PLACE, Birds of Prey
Gore Place, 52 Gore St., will offer visitors a chance to see live hawks, falcons owls and a bald eagle when raptor demonstrator Tom Ricardi brings his Birds of Prey show to the estate on Sunday, July 5, 11 a.m., 12:30 pm. and 2 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. Ricardi served more than 30 years with the Division of Environmental Law Enforcement during which time he gained and intimate knowledge of these remarkable birds.

WALK AND TALK, Program begins July 6
Healthy Waltham presents, Walk and Talk with Elected Officials, returning to Leary Field track, off Bacon Street, on Mondays, July 6-Aug. 24, 6 to 7:15 p.m. Aug. 3 is a special night when all candidates for public office will walk. Here is your chance to spend time with our elected officials while getting in shape.
Healthy Waltham is a community health initiative sponsored by Mount Auburn Hospital and the Regional Center for Healthy Communities in partnership with over 25 Waltham organizations.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB, Ripken baseball league
Due to the support of the Cal Ripken Sr Foundation & Reviving Baseball in inner cites, the Waltham Boys & Girls Club will be able to runs its second year of the baseball league. The league, for ages 12-15, plays Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 30-Aug. 27, at Yetten Field. There is no charge to participate, but all participants must be a member of the Waltham Boys & Girls Club. Equipment and uniforms will be provided.

TOM ZOELLNER, Author talk at library
An Author Talk with Tom Zoellner, ``Uranium: War, Energy and the Rock that Shaped the World,'' will take place Tuesday, June 30, 7:30 p.m., at Newton Free Library, 330 Homer St. In his new book, Zoellner takes his readers on an arresting journey through the ``life'' of this strange substance, from slave camps in Africa, to war councils, smugglers' routes and enrichment plants. The talk will be followed by a book signing with books provided by the New England Mobile Book Fair.

HISTORY MUSEUM, Book Club
The Newton History Museum at The Jackson Homestead, 527 Washington St., presents, Historic Book Club, on Tuesday, June 30, 7:30 p.m. The book club will meet for its bimonthly discussion of a work of social history. This meeting's selection is American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House by Jon Meacham. In this book, Newsweek editor and bestselling author Meacham offers a lively take on the seventh president's White House years. The book club is free and new members are always welcome.

JULY 4TH, Events all day
Newton's July 4th festivities begins at 10 a.m. with Kids Morning at the Newton Centre Playground. Children 12 and under are invited to participate in the Decorated Doll Carriage Promenade, the Decorated Bicycles, the Teddy Bear Parade the Grande Pet Parade and Foot Races. There will be free candy and ice cream. An Open Air Market featuring handmade and international crafts, service organizations and professional dealers will be available from 10 a.m. to dusk at the Russell J. Halloran Sports Complex on Albemarle Road. Children's amusement rides and food vendors will be available all day. Fireworks by Newton's own Tony Gentile will begin at approximately 9 p.m.

MISHKAN TEFILA, Minyan services
Congregation Mishkan Tefila, 300 Hammond Pond Parkway, will continue to offer twice daily (morning and evening) Minyan services throughout the summer months. A Minyan is a daily prayer service led by members of the congregation that requires the participation of ten adult Jewish people beyond the age of bar or bat mitzvah. Congregation Mishkan Tefila's twice daily Minyan services, which have occurred since the temple originated more than 150 years ago, are offered Monday through Thursday at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Sundays 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., legal holidays 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Fridays 7 a.m. and 6:15 p.m.

ALZHEIMER'S, Support group
Individuals and families caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or other memory impairments are invited to participate in a free monthly caregiver support group at Evans Park at Newton Corner, 430 Centre St. The group meets on the third Wednesday of the month, noon, with lunch served, and the fourth Tuesday, 6 p.m., with dinner served. Complimentary respite care in the community's Harbor Program will be provided for participants needing to bring their loved ones with them.

ALL NEWTON MUSIC, Sampler Seminar
The All Newton Music School, 321 Chestnut St., presents its Instrument Sampler Seminar, six Mondays, July 6-Aug. 10, 7 to 7:30 p.m., where students, ages 9 and up, have hands-on access to the instrument of the week (violin, clarinet, flute, cello, saxophone, trumpet). Parents are welcome to join the student. A $25 discount will be credited to Summer Instrument Sample students when they register for private lessons in fall 2009.
