GLBT SOCIAL GROUP, Potluck dinner
WOW (Way Out in Waltham), Watch City's gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered social group, will hold a spring potluck dinner Thursday, June 26, 6 p.m. The dinner will be held in a private residence and is a way for the city's gay residents to meet and get to know one another and to feel more at home in the community.

EMILY DICKINSON, Beth Goldman returns
Actor Beth Goldman returns with Act 2 of ``Tea with Emily,'' an adaptation of the ``Belle of Amherst'' by William Luce at the Waltham Public Library, 735 Main St., on Thursday, June 26, 7:30 p.m. ``Tea with Emily'' delicately explores the life of America's greatest woman poet at various stages in her experience. Her life is recreated with liberal excerpts from her poetry and the voices of Dickinson and her circle.

SPRAY PARKS, Open June 30
The Waltham Recreation Department announces that spray parks will open for the summer season June 30, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CAPOEIRA, Free demonstration at YMCA
The Waltham YMCA, 725 Lexington St., presents Capoeira, a form of Brazilian martial arts that combines music, rhythmic movements and dance. Capoeira was a means of self-defense and has evolved into traditions of dance, with drums and stringed instruments. Capoeira brings the components of flexibility, fitness and a rhythmic musical expression. There will be a free demonstration and class June 28, 10:30 a.m. to noon at the outdoor pool at the Waltham YMCA.

FRENCH CLUB, Annual picnic
The French American Victory Club is holding its Annual Picnic Sunday, June 29, at Amvets in Natick on Lake Cochituate. There will be food, games and a raffle. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Children under 5 admitted free.

MINUTEMAN SUMMER SCHOOL, Classes in July
The Minuteman Summer School program, 758 Marrett Road, Lexington, has course offerings specifically designed to meet the needs of elementary school students and their parents. Activities include academic enrichment, creative arts, sports and recreation and playtime. All of these programs provide an organized structure that allows for a ready-made environment for making friends, socializing and learning. The program runs July 7-Aug. 1, with morning and afternoon sessions available

PAYSON PARK CHURCH, Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School at Payson Park Church, 365 Belmont St., Belmont, will run Wednesday, June 25, through Friday, June 27. The school is open to all, ages 3 and older. Ages 14 and older can elect to be counselors. A toddler room is available for children of parent volunteers.

YMCA, Functional Performance
The West Suburban YMCA will host Functional Performance, a new and unique intensive sport specific workout, June 23-Aug. 17. Designed to prepare athletes for the summer and fall sports seasons, this program will teach participants how to maximize their on-the-field performance, improve sport specific movements, increase power, strength, and speed under the instruction of a certified and knowledgeable strength and conditioning coach.

EPOCH Assisted Living at Boylston Place, 615 Heath St., will host a book club meeting Friday, June 27, 11:15 a.m. The book club is free and open to the public. Book reviewer Gail Rice will lead a book review with a discussion of the novel ``Eye Contact,'' by Cammie McGovern. The author delivers a page-turning mystery concerning two children who have disappeared into the woods behind an elementary school. Only one of them, a 9-year-old boy, is found alive and is the only witness to the murder of the other.

NEWTON YOUTH PLAYERS, Summer classes, Registration is underway for the Newton Youth Players summer classes and performance of ``Oklahoma,'' at the Newton Cultural Center, 225 Nevada St. Classes run Monday, June 30, through Thursday, July 24, 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $650; $700 for non-residents. Students learn basic acting techniques, dancing, scenery, and dancing. There are parts for everyone.

Fighting Irishmen exhibit, The exhibition, Fighting Irishmen: Celebrating Celtic Prizefighters 1820 to Present, makes its Massachusetts debut at Boston College John J. Burns Library of Rare Books and Special Collections, 140 Commonwealth Ave., through August 2008. Fighting Irishmen is comprised of an eclectic collection of boxing artifacts, including prints, photographs, paintings, robes, gloves, boxing bags, films and other items.
New England boxers are prominent in the exhibit, including legendary world heavyweight champion John L. Sullivan of Roxbury and three-time New England Golden Gloves winner ``Irish'' Micky Ward of Lowell.
