PROF. ZVI GITELMAN, Two lectures
Prof. Zvi Gitelman, eminent scholar of Judaic Studies, will deliver two lectures at the third annual Lecture Series co-sponsored by Hebrew College and the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston. He will speak on Culture Wars: Litvaks vs. Galizianers in Eastern Europe on Thursday, Nov. 12, 8 p.m., at Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward St. This lecture focuses on the cultural chasm -sometimes comic, sometimes tense - between the two main streams of Yiddishkeit. On Sunday, Nov. 15, 3:30 p.m., he will deliver, A Century of Ambivalence: Jews, Soviets and Russians. Both are at Hebrew College, 160 Herrick Road. This lecture addresses the complex and uneasy relationship among Jews, Soviets and Russians. Admission is free for both lectures.
