WALTHAM HIGH SCHOOL, Spring Concert
The Waltham Fine Arts Department will be holding the annual Spring Concert on Thursday, May 15, 7 p.m., at Waltham High School, 617 Lexington St. The concert will feature the high school vocal groups as well as the orchestra and band. Free and open to the public.

IMPROV JONES, At Newton Free Library
Improv Jones Boston, an eight-member comedic troupe, will perform short improv games similar to the style of the TV show, ``Whose Line Is It Anyway?'', at Newton Free Library, 330 Homer St., on Wednesday, May 7, 7 p.m. Audience members will offer suggestions about locations, emotions and relationships and some will even get in on the act performing in a game or two with the troupe. The troupe performs Fridays, 8 p.m., at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown. Visit improvjonesboston.com.

POSTAL CARRIERS, Collecting food
The National Association of Letter Carriers along with USPS, AFL-CIO, United Way of Mass Bay, America's Second Harvest, Campbell's, Project Bread, the American Red Cross, and the Greater Boston Food Bank, will try to ``Stamp Out Hunger'' when carriers will pick up non-perishable food left at mailboxes in Waltham and Newton on Saturday, May 10 and deliver it to local food pantries.

GARDEN MARKET, At Newton City Hall
The Newton Garden Market, on the lawn at City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Ave., is Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Presented by the Newton Pride Committee, there will be thousands of New England grown plants, including perennials, annuals, shrubs and herbs. There will be free demonstrations on current gardening trends and questions answered by master gardeners. There will also be raffles.

BRANDEIS WOMEN STUDIES, Annual Mother's Day event
The Women's Studies Research Center at Brandeis University's annual Mother's Day event focuses on working mothers and the discrimination they face. This panel discussion brings together working mothers of multiple generations to share their experiences and create a discussion about how to improve conditions for working mothers. The discussion is moderated by E.J. Graff, WSRC resident scholar, and participants include Dana Gershengorn, Neena Pathak and Judith Stadtman Tucker. The event is Thursday, May 8, 12:30 to 2 p.m., in the Epstein Building, 515 South St.

IRENA SALINA, Earth's water supply
Brandeis University will present Irena Salina, and the Boston debut of her film ``FLOW: For Love Of Water,'' on Thursday, May 1, 7:30 p.m., in the Sachar International Center, Wasserman Cinematheque, 415 South St. The film focuses on the politics, pollution and human rights that are associated with the challenges facing the earth's water supply. The film will be followed by a question and answer session. Admission is free.

PROJECT BREAD, Walk for Hunger
Project Bread's 40th Walk for Hunger is Sunday, May 4. Walkers will enjoy a 20-mile route weaving through Boston, Brookline, Newton, and Cambridge, and will be provided with entertainment and free snacks along the way. This year, an expected 43,000 participants will raise at least $3.4 million in pledges to help fund 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, food banks, and food salvage programs across Massachusetts. Registration is from 7 to 9 a.m. on Boston Common.

HOVEY PLAYERS, `A Shayna Maidel'
Hovey Players presents ``A Shayna Maidel,'' running May 2-17, at the Abbott Memorial Theater, Joel's Way, 9 Spring St. ``A Shayna Maidel'' (a beautiful girl) is a story set in the late 1940s about a young polish girl, Rose, in her 20s, who came to the United States with her father is now completely ``Americanized.'' The plan had been for Rose's mother and sister to join the others, but the rise of the Nazis cut off their escape. Tickets are $15, seniors/students, $13.
Those attending the opening night performance is invited to the opening night party, at Baan Thai Restaurant, 659 Main St., for complimentary refreshments, cash bar, and meet the cast and crew.
