As 2009 comes to an end, so does a decade.

A lot has happened in Waltham the past 10 years. What do you think was the most significant? Do you think you can condense the top stories into a list?

We are looking for readers to send us their top 10 Waltham stories. We will publish them, along with staff’s lists and those from public officials.

In case you can’t think that far back, here are a few we came up with: Waltham Hospital closes; state requests the closure of Fernald; James Keown found guilty of killing his wife with Gatorade and anti-freeze; eight new schools built; Waltham native Mackenzy Bernadeau starts for the Carolina Panthers; Jeannette McCarthy elected the first female mayor of Waltham; police officer Brian Truesdale commits suicide with city-issued gun, in Mount Feake Cemetery; Polaroid closes; city department positions cut in fiscal 2010 budget; Pop Warner cheerleaders win at Nationals in 2005; Waltham boys hockey win Div. 1 state championship in 2002; Waltham resident James Brescia found guilty of hiring a man to kill Edward Schiller; Police Chief Edward Drew retires amid charges of nepotism in the department; Wal-Lex closes.

Rank these stories in order of importance to you, or tell us others you find memorable from the past decade.

Send a list of 10, with your name, street (number not necessary) and city. E-mail (by Monday, Dec. 28) to newstribune@cnc.com or fax (by Wednesday, Dec. 23) to 781-398-8010.
