YEAR-ROUND WALK, Two distances
Enjoy picturesque and enchanting residential areas on the Newton Year-Round Walk, Jan. 7-Dec. 16. A six- or 10-kilometer (3.7 or 6.2 mile) walk route is available. Both routes pass historic homes, Crystal Lake and Newton Highlands. The 10 kilometer walk contiues through the village of Waban. The starting point is the Newton Free Library, 330 Homer St. The walk box can be found on the table in the main lobby. The walk is rated moderately easy suitable for strollers but not for wheelchairs.
The walk is sponsored by Walk-'n-Mass Volksport Club. Volksporting events promote fun, fitness and fellowship by providing non-competitive walking and other sporting events free to the public. WEST SUBURBAN YMCA, February classes and lectures
The West Suburban YMCA is offering several one-day workshops and lectures throughout the month of February at the Y, 276 Church St. In honor of healthy heart month and cardiac rehabilitation week, the Y is hosting a lecture focusing on exercise and nutrition for a healthy heart. Discussions will include different exercises strategies targeted to improve heart function and optimal food choices will be discussed as well as exercise strategies targeted to improve heart function. Join the Fitness and Wellness Department on Monday, Feb. 12, 7 p.m., or on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m.

RED CROSS, Seeking volunteers
The American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay MetroWest Area is looking for individuals who enjoy working in an office setting and assisting the public. Longterm volunteers are needed to answer phones and assist with light office work on Monday and Wednesday, 1 to 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Become a part of the American Red Cross team, and assist your local community by providing information on our programs and services, and registering students for Health and Safety training courses.

The Waltham Garden Club Scholarship is available to any graduate of Waltham pursuing an education in horticulture, agriculture or environmental studies.

THE CAT CONNECTION, Volunteers needed
The Cat Connection, a group of volunteers who help control the feral cat population through the TNRF process (trap/neuter/return/feed), is looking for volunteers for 10-15 minutes a week, to oversee and maintain many "colonies" which are specific areas that the cats call "home." Our trappers see that the cats are caught, fixed and returned to the area. Our volunteers build and place warm shelters and feeding stations in the area for their protection from the elements. Volunteers are needed in Waltham, Auburndale and Newton Center.

Parenting Resource Associates, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting healthy child development, introduces its professional development seminars at Temple Isaiah, 55 Lincoln St., Lexington, beginning Thursday, Feb. 15, 7 to 9 p.m.., with The Floortime Approach: Meeting Individual Needs in Early Childhood Groups. TOT SHABBAT, Interactive service for kids
Families with infants through pre-kindergarteners are invited to celebrate Shabbat with music, puppetry, art, and movement at Temple Shalom's monthly Tot Shabbat. This interactive service is followed by a snack and an age-appropriate art project. Tot Shabbat begins Feb. 10, 10 a.m., in Rothman Chapel, 175 Temple St. All activities are free and open to the public.
