Waltham —

A Waltham Police officer was hit by a minivan Friday afternoon while on motorcycle patrol.

Around 4 p.m. Officer Richard Modica suffered a leg injury when a minivan struck him at the corner of Elm and Main streets just outside City Hall.

Yesterday, Waltham Police said Modica is recovering and they are not yet sure if he will take a leave of absence from work.

According to Officer Stephen Clarke, the driver of the minivan was making a left onto Elm Street from Main Street and collided with Modica as he was attempting to make a motor vehicle stop on Main Street.

Modica was transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital suffering from leg and abdominal pain. A child travelling in the minivan was transported to Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. Both suffered minor injuries.
